NONTZEFILM 2009 - CINEMA AND ANIMATED SHORT FILM COMPETITION


Guidelines to the competition


1. Nontzeberri.com cultural web site promotes Nontzefilmak Cinema and Animated Short Films competition with the collaboration of Bilbao’s Fantastic Film Festival (FANT).

2. It is open to everybody who wants to take part, no matter where they are from and with no limited number of animated films. Registering is free.

3. There could be two shorts categories: cinema and animation. The animated shorts will be realized with any kind of technique (Flash, 3D, stop-motion…)

The shorts will be produced in .mov and .wmv and the file must be not bigger than 3,5 Mb and not longer than 3,5 minutes. About the animated films produced with Flash technology: the file must be not bigger than 3,5 Mb and not longer than 3,5 minutes. Each film should be submitted in a single file, and if it includes some music it should also be included in the same file. It should be taken into account that the film sent will be included in a flash 650px (width) 460px (height) and black back. Therefore, we advise the film should have the measures suggested (650 x 460px) if not we would readjust it. On the other hand, if the back of the film is other from black make sure you create a new layer that is under the other layers with the colour of the back you want to have. In both cases, cinema and animation, with the short also be sent an image that represents the film in a 70px (width) x 50px (height) jpg. file. It should not be heavier than 50 KB.

4. Our competition is trilingual. Therefore, in order for your film to be seen by as many people as possible, this year, we invite to participants send it with subtitles (Basque, Spanish or English) if the film is not in Basque or Spanish. If the film is chosen to exhibit in FANT the author will compromise to include subtitles in Basque. The author will get the help of the promoters.

5. There is no specific topic for the films but they all must be original and produced after 1st January 2008.

6. The deadline to submit for the competition will be 28th February 2009 (13.00 p.m. local time). Nevertheless, the organisation would appreciate that the films are submitted beforehand to be shown on nontzefilmak.com for the entertainment of the Internet users.

7. If your film is chosen to exhibit in FANT, you will send a high resolution copy of the film. We will report you by e mail. Remember, the subtitles will be included in Basque, but you will get the help of the promoters.

8. The best animated films will be awarded by judges and they will be shown on Bilbao’s Fantastic Film Festival FANT 2009.

9. The competition offers the following awards:

  • - Nontzefilmak Award to The Best Animated film: 2.000 euros
    - Second Award: 1.500 euros
    - Third Award: 900 euros

    - Nontzefilmak Award to The Best Cinema film: 2.000 euros
    - Second Award: 1.500 euros
    - Third Award: 900 euros

    - The Best short filmed in Basque: 1.000 euros
    - The best short filmed by University student: 500 euros

10. Any prize can be declared void, if the judges consider the quality of the animated films is not good enough.

11. All attendees who register for the competition accept to be the owner of licence, copyrights and rights for the image, sound, type graphs and any tools they may use. Registering for the competition means that the author declares to be responsible for the work submitted and its content. Nontzeberri.com and FANT decline any legal responsibility whatsoever over the content of the films.

12. The author of the film is the exclusive owner of the films submitted. Nevertheless, all attendees who register for the festival give the rights of public distribution and reproduction to Nontzeberri.com and FANT Festival until the next edition of the competition takes place. These rights will be extended until the author makes a formal request to the Festival asking to interrupt the right. Meanwhile all attendees give the rights of their film to Nontzeberri.com and FANT Festival to show it on-line and off-line. And last but not least, the winners and the authors of the films selected by FANT give the rights of the films for an unlimited period of time.

13. To submit the competition all attendees will fill in an online form. They will include their name and surname, place of origin, e-mail address, website, telephone number, the title of the animated film, length, an image that represents the film in a 70 x 50 pixels jpg. file and a brief summary of it (no longer than 50 words, in Basque, Spanish or English). If you have any problem to send the film or you don't see it on the website after a short period of time, get in touch with us in the following address nontzefilmak@nontzefilmak.com

14. A commission will check the films submitted and will have the admission right.

15. The judges will be three well-known people in the animated film area. They will choose the best works according to quality and originality of the films submitted and will give the awards accordingly.
16. The awards will be announced on a live awards ceremony at the FANT 2009. The names of the winners will be shown on the website once FANT festival is over.

17. The decisions made by the judges are final.

18. Nontzeberri.com and FANT have no legal responsibility whatsoever for the further use of the films submitted. Nevertheless, the organisation will try to protect the films the best they can.

19. Submitting for the competition means accepting the above mentioned guidelines.
